Newcastle United outcast Rolando Aarons scores first goal of latest loan spell

Rolando Aarons was once of the Premier League’s top young players. , the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool were keen on the flying winger after his excellent start to life at St James’ Park.

Aarons was expected to be a future Newcastle star but hamstring injuries seriously blighted his progress after a 2014 breakthrough.

Now he is something of a forgotten man. Aarons has since spent time on loan with Italian side Hellas Verona, Czech outfit Slovan Liberec and Sheffield Wednesday. None of these loan deals suggested Aarons was set for a Newcastle renaissance.

This summer he was sent out on loan again, joining League One side Wycombe Wanderers until mid-January.

It is certainly looking like a better fit.

After fighting his way into the first-team, Aarons is now starting to showcase his talents at Adams’ Park for the surprise league leaders.

Yesterday, he scored his first goal for the club as they beat Shrewsbury Town 1-0 to maintain their place at the top of the league table.

Aarons is under contract at Newcastle until 2021 so perhaps the 23-year-old might still have a future at St James’ Park if this loan spell can be a catalyst for change.
