But according to , the Blues want a loan deal for Digne. That could scupper their hopes, with Everton looking for a more permanent solution and Newcastle said to be willing to pay money up front. It’s claimed the Magpies aren’t put off by the £25m asking price for the Frenchman.

Eddie Howe is desperate to bring in some new signings in January. His Newcastle team are firmly in a relegation scrap and PIF know they need to back their new boss with fresh faces. Digne, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order under Rafa Benitez at Everton.

Despite being a regular in previous seasons, Digne and Benitez have not seen eye to eye.

Beyond the power struggle between clubs, it’s worth noting that Digne is a fine player. He’s an experienced French international and has Premier League experience. He also brings set-piece prowess. Of his six Everton goals, three have been , while another was a long-range effort.

Digne would immediately improve Newcastle. And ultimately, that is what the club needs. They need players who can deliver straight away, and Digne certainly can offer that.
