Newcastle think they’ve beaten Arsenal and Tottenham to the signing of teenager ‘similar to Gabriel Martinelli’
TBR Football understands that Newcastle United believe they are close to finalising a deal to sign Spanish prospect Antonio Cordero.
The Malaga teenager is out of contract at the end of this season and several clubs have been in talks about trying to land his signature.
Spanish giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have all spoken with Cordero’s camp, but he looks set to leave Spain.
Newcastle have been pushing hard to sign the Spaniard having also snapped up the likes of Miodrag Pivas, Baran Yildiz and Vakhtang Salia over the last 18 months.

Newcastle leading the race to sign Antonio Cordero
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also shown an interest in Antonio Cordero, however, a move to the Premier League is very likely with Newcastle United leading the race, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
The Magpies are now looking to add Cordero and talks have progressed quickly in recent weeks and TBR Football understands that terms have been agreed.
The young Spanish talent has drawn comparisons with Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli due to his explosive dribbling and ability to play on either flank and up top.
However, the Tyneside club are not the English team that have spoken to Cordero over recent weeks.
TBR Football understands that Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham have also had contact with Cordero’s entourage.
Antonio Cordero impressing in LaLiga2 for Malaga
Antonio Cordero has been making quite a name for himself in LaLiga2 despite Malaga’s recent struggles in the second tier of Spanish football.
Competition | Apps | Goals | Assists |
LaLiga2 | 24 | 4 | 6 |
Copa del Rey | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 25 | 4 | 6 |
The winger has four goals and six assists to his name in 24 appearances which earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team’s Under-19 squad.
His eye-catching displays are also the reason for him being in such heavy demand with many of Europe’s elite wanting his signature.
