Reported £10m Newcastle target hauled off at half-time after miserable weekend display
The transfer window might have been and gone for Newcastle United now, but there’s still good reason to be keeping an eye on the numerous players they were linked with.
Newcastle landed some impressive signings in the end, capped off by the late capture of Lyon and Brazil star, Bruno Guimaraes. They also signed Chris Wood, while Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier came in to add steel at the back.

However, one player the club were reportedly in talks with and missed out on was West Ham defender, Issa Diop. It was claimed the Hammers were. But in the end, despite talks apparently having taken place with Newcastle, no deal ever got done.
And on today’s evidence, Newcastle and their fans might be counting their lucky stars when it comes to Diop.
Miserable
On a cold and wet FA Cup day, Issa Diop has suffered the nightmare scenario at the hands of lower league opposition.
At the time of writing, the Hammers are 1-0 down to Kidderminster Harriers. And while they might come back and win the game, Diop has suffered the embarrassment of being withdrawn at half-time by David Moyes. Certainly, it wasn’t the performance of a Premier League quality defender worth £10m+, that’s for sure.
Alex Kral was also given the chop my Moyes at half-time. But for Newcastle fans, it is the performance of Diop which will have caught the eye. Albeit, for all the very wrong reasons.
