Newcastle should launch bid for £25m Premier League defender as Marc Guehi deal on verge of collapsing

Newcastle remain active in the summer transfer market ahead of deadline day on Friday.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a central defender this week and has identified Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as a prime target.

But, having been in talks for most of August, Guehi’s proposed move to Newcastle is now on the verge of collapsing.

So, the Tynesiders should consider a last-minute bid for a Premier League defender who’s actually available.

Newcastle should go in for Trevoh Chalobah

Newcastle United will have to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a centre-back and should look no further than Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, who’s been labelled ‘colossal’ per .

TBR reported earlier this month that Newcastle are interested in Chalobah and have him on their transfer shortlist, so clearly, he’s a player Howe admires.

Plus, he’s been made available by Chelsea, so it should be a pretty straightforward deal to do if they can fend off interest from Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old has a £25m valuation – which is evidently feasible for Newcastle who made a bid in the region of £65m for Guehi.

Newcastle may not sign anyone

Craig Hope shared that Newcastle may not actually sign another defender as Howe had tunnel vision for Guehi.

Joachim Anderson was mooted as an alternative target earlier in the window but he’s since moved to Fulham.

So, they could be left with no choice but to persist with their current options.
