Newcastle should enter the race for Che Adams

According to the , Southampton are set to win the race to Che Adams’ signature. The Saints are said to be closing in on a £14 million deal for the Birmingham City forward but fellow Premier League sides Burnley and Sheffield United are also believed to be interested in the 22-year-old.

The young English striker was in prolific form in the Championship last season. He netted 22 times for the Blues across 46 league appearances. Such form has clearly caught the attention of plenty of top tier sides and Newcastle United would also be wise to enter the race.

Following the end of Salomon Rondon’s loan deal, the Magpies find themselves lacking a striker. Adams could be the ideal man to lead the line at St James’ Park this season. The Birmingham No.9 has the pace and movement to combine effectively with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez.

What’s more, Adams can also compete physically. He may lack Rondon’s aerial presence, but he will not be easily bullied by opposition defenders. Adams is also a more clinical finisher than the Venezuelan and poses a far more potent threat on the counter-attack.

He is also clearly available at a reasonable price. Rafa Benitez should be urging Newcastle to sign Adams before it is too late. Adams would offer the Magpies a new dimension and would aid Benitez’s reinvention of the north East club.
