Newcastle should ease injury crisis with move for Tottenham misfit Danny Rose
Newcastle United have today been dealt a massive double injury blow, adding to their woes on the fitness front.
Steve Bruce told earlier that Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett will now be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Willems cruelly ruptured his ACL during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Chelsea and Dummett suffered a hamstring injury in the FA Cup win over Rochdale.
That will leave Newcastle desperately short, particularly on the left-hand side.
It perhaps couldn’t have been worse that both players in Bruce’s squad capable of playing on the left-hand side have now been ruled out.
One saving grace for the Magpies is that the transfer window is open.
Bruce will surely be considering a foray into the market now and Tottenham left-back Danny Rose would represent a quality signing.
The 29-year-old has been on the fringes since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club and is out of contract during the summer of 2021.
His future looks bleak at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and he’d represent a coup for Newcastle.
Rose has 29 England caps to his name and a player boasting such quality should really be playing regular football.
If Mourinho isn’t willing to give him that then he’d be wise to assess his options.
Rose is paid £60,000-a-week at Tottenham and Newcastle should be able to pay him a respectable wage.
Given that his contract is up in 2021, Bruce might be able to prise Rose away for a pretty low transfer fee too.
It would seem he is surplus at Spurs and Newcastle would be wise to pounce.
Rose has lost his way in recent years but he did play his part as Tottenham reached the Champions League final last season.
Experience
The left-back has played 214 games for Spurs and that level of Premier League know-how could be a vital asset in a young Newcastle squad.
Bruce has done a decent job since replacing Rafa Benitez during the summer and he will want to continue improving.
It’s fair to say some new additions would help him lift Newcastle up the table.
Rose would relish the first-team football opportunity and the Magpies should make a move for the defender.
