Newcastle set to send £15m player out on loan with Nottingham Forest keen

Newcastle United are expected to have a busy end to the summer transfer window as they work on business in and out the door.

The Magpies are still trying to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, though, that deal is proving very difficult due to the lofty price tag.

Toulouse defender Logan Costa has been identified by Newcastle as an alternative whilst Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen is also being considered.

In terms of outgoing, Miguel Almiron continues to be linked with an exit and TBR Football can now confirm that a defender is set to be sent out on loan for the season.

Newcastle ready to loan Matt Targett

TBR Football understands that Newcastle are ready to let Matt Targett leave on loan this month and there is interest in taking him from a number of Premier League clubs.

Targett, who was bought for £15m in 2022, has returned to fitness this season after an injury-plagued campaign last term. He has seen his chances become limited with Lewis Hall now first-choice left-back.

Eddie Howe is a confirmed admirer of the 28-year-old but Newcastle need to trim their squad and are ready to sanction his exit.

TBR can confirm that former clubs Fulham and Southampton have shown an interest in taking him, whilst Nottingham Forest, and Brentford are also considering taking him.

Targett has two years left on his current deal at St James’ Park.

Newcastle still need a creative midfielder

Newcastle’s Financial Fair Play issues have been well documented but once Targett and Almiron depart, that could facilitate another arrival on top of a centre-back.

The number 10 role is an area Howe’s side are lacking in so perhaps they should try to get James McAtee out of Manchester City.

McAtee would be the ideal playmaker to operate between the lines, providing a further link between the attack and midfield.

It’ll be a tough deal to complete, as Pep Guardiola wants to keep him, but Newcastle would be able to offer much more regular playing time.
