Newcastle reportedly want to sign Arsenal star Alan Shearer labelled ‘magnificent’ in 2019
Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing out-on-loan Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi – a player Alan Shearer raved about in 2019.
Guendouzi, 22, has been excellent for Marseille since joining the Ligue 1 side on loan from Arsenal in the summer. They have a permanent clause.
that clause is worth a bargain £9.5million, an option that Jorge Sampaoli’s side are likely to exercise in the coming months.
Newcastle might have something to say about that. Amanda Staveley and the club’s new owners are admirers of the France Under-21 star.
Newcastle want to sign Guendouzi and will make an attempt next summer. It remains to be seen if Arsenal are willing to sell to a Premier League rival.

Back in 2019, Guendouzi helped Arsenal beat Villa 3-2. Shearer was full of praise on MOTD – – branding Guendouzi a “warrior”.
“Guendouzi was magnificent in the second half, they needed a warrior and he stood up,” Shearer said. “What a performance in the second half.”

That is, if Guendouzi does not want to join Marseille permanently and would rather stay in England. But Marseille are on course for Europe.
Currently sitting in third in the Ligue 1 table after 12 league games, they could easily qualify for the Champions League next season.
Guendouzi may feel he wants to remain and play in the Champions League, given he will have helped earn his loan side’s place in the competition.
However, Newcastle can offer much bigger wages than Marseille and that might appeal to the midfielder. At £9.5million, he is an absolute bargain.
