Newcastle reportedly want £17m playmaker that Rafa Benitez has raved about

Newcastle United are considering a surprise swoop to bring Christian Eriksen back to the Premier League just six months since he left Tottenham Hotspur – and Rafa Benitez has previously raved about the Dane.

Eriksen, 28, left Tottenham in January to join Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan after almost seven years at Spurs. He has since played nine times for Inter, scoring twice – but hardly living up to the expectation of Inter supporters.

The £17million signing  is one of a number of signings made by Benitez’s former side Inter from the Premier League, along with Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young, Victor Moses and Alexis Sanchez.

Now, Newcastle’s potential new owners could look to bring the Dane back to the Premier League – even though he is earning an enormous £260,000 a week (). Rafa Benitez spoke about Eriksen in May 2019.

“If Christian Eriksen plays well, then Tottenham will be a big threat because he is the one who finds the passes. He is a very good player,” Benitez said ahead of last season’s Champions League final.

TBR’s view – Eriksen could be Newcastle’s marquee signing

To sign a player that has been involved in more than 100 Premier League goals in terms of his own efforts and assists – 51 goals and 66 assists in 226 top-flight outings – Newcastle would be in dream land.

Yes, Eriksen has somewhat deteriorated over the last few years. But the former Ajax man is still deadly from set-pieces and in and around the penalty area – whether it be shooting or laying on a teammate.

He could single-handedly take Newcastle into European contention.
