Newcastle ‘remain interested’ in £45m Premier League midfielder as Juventus drop out of race

Newcastle United are still interested in signing Kalvin Phillips after Juventus apparently dropped out of the race for the England star.

Phillips is a man in-demand this month after dropping well down the pecking order at Manchester City.

Liverpool are known admirers of Phillips and have considered him as a new signing. Newcastle have been linked ever since the window opened, while Tottenham are also thought to be keeping an eye on matters.

Juventus, too, were also keen on doing a deal for Phillips but now, it looks like the Italian club have left the path clear for English clubs.

Newcastle still want Kalvin Phillips after Juventus decision

According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have now left the door wide open for clubs to move for Phillips if they wish.

Taking to just now, Romano has said that Juventus have now stopped their plans to sign Phillips and that as of now, Newcastle ‘remain interested’ in landing the Man City man.

Phillips can help Newcastle

The Mags scored a confidence boosting win over Sunderland this weekend and that could be a big point in the season for them.

However, they still need a signing or two in January and you’d have to say that Kalvin Phillips would be an immediate help for them.

signing Phillips has drifted well down the ladder at City but he continues to have ambitions of getting into the England squad in the summer for the Euros. Because of that, you expect Phillips to really have a go at it if and when he does find a new club this month.

Newcastle is a smart move all around. He’d play regularly in the middle of the park and have the chance to show the England staff he’s still the man for the job.

Eddie Howe, meanwhile, would be getting a solid Premier League player who knows the league and would slot seamlessly into the team.
