Newcastle really like £40m Aston Villa player but there’s a problem
Newcastle United need to sign a striker this summer as questions continue to be raised around Callum Wilson’s fitness and reliability.
Unfortunately, Wilson’s injury issues aren’t subsiding, and at the age of 32, the striker may now be ever so slightly past his best.
Therefore, Newcastle do need a new striker this summer.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a move to Newcastle, but according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on NUFC Matters, there’s another option in the Premier League who the Magpies are keen on.

Newcastle keen on Jhon Duran
According to Jacobs, Newcastle are big fans of Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
“I think the targets in defence are pretty well known at the moment. The strikers are more up for debate. I know Newcastle like Jhon Duran at Aston Villa, but they were not prepared to meet the valuation,” Jacobs said.

How much Jhon Duran would cost Newcastle
Newcastle are right to hesitate over a move for the Aston Villa striker.
The South American is said to be valued at £40m, and that is a massive fee for a player who has scored just five Premier League goals in his career.
Of course, at the age of just 20, you’d be paying for potential if you were to make a move for Duran, but £40m is a lot of money for a player who really hasn’t prove himself at the top level.
Duran could go on to become a star, but if you’re paying £40m you want a player who is something of a finished product.
Duran has a number of raw physical attributes that make him an exciting player, and with the right coaching, perhaps he could be a star, but, right now, he isn’t at the necessary level to act as a replacement for someone who is as proven as Callum Wilson.
