Newcastle predicted XI v Man City: Steve Bruce to make three changes, Joelinton dropped
With Newcastle United all but safe in the Premier League, attention turns to Sunday evening’s FA Cup quarter-final clash.
Steve Bruce’s charges are up against top opposition in Manchester City, who’ll be eager to make amends for relinquishing the title by getting their hands on another cup this season.
Newcastle deployed the same starting XI in their last two games, but with Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden being forced off on Wednesday, Bruce will probably look to give those two a rest.
No concerns in goal, so Martin Dubravka should get the nod, while in front, the back four is likely to remain the same too – Danny Rose, Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo.
Matt Ritchie’s spot on the right wing could be taken by Valentino Lazaro, while Nabil Bentaleb is likely to deputise for Hayden, and Jonjo Shelvey and Allan Saint-Maximin should complete the midfield.
Miguel Almiron should retain his spot just behind the striker, and given the frontman is likely to be isolated for large parts of the contest, Bruce could favour extra physicality to give the City defence a harder time.
It could prove a controversial option but Andy Carroll could potentially be picked ahead of Joelinton, though with the Brazilian plus Dwight Gayle on the bench, they could be deployed later on in the game when the visitors’ defence is flagging.
