Newcastle Transfer News: Youssoufa Moukoko bid emerges as Dortmund tie down forward

Newcastle had been among the clubs tracking Borussia Dortmund starlet, Youssoufa Moukoko, but ultimately missed out as he signed a new contract.

Moukoko is seen as one of the most talented prospects in Europe right now. A host of clubs, including Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United were all thought to be keen. Of course, all those clubs have been left disappointed with Moukoko’s new deal in Dortmund.

However, it appears that of those clubs, Newcastle might have come the closest to landing him. Writing in his column for , German journalist Christian Falk had the following to say.

“Youssoufa Moukoko has decided to extend his stay with Borussia Dortmund, signing a contract that will keep him with the club until 2026. The player will earn €6m per year on top of a €10m signing fee (with his agent, Patrick Williams, receiving a €5m fee), with the package totalling €33m,” Falk wrote.

“It’s rumoured that Newcastle did offer to pay a €30m signing fee, plus a €10m salary to try and prise the player away from Dortmund.”

The package on offer there would have set Newcastle back around £34m, based on current exchange rates. With Chris Wood on his way to Nottingham Forest, the Mags might well still be in the hunt for a new forward.

TBR’s View: Newcastle showing ambition trying to sign Moukoko

There’s no doubt Newcastle are a major player in the transfer market right now. They’re not quite doing a Chelsea and throwing money around all the place. But they are in the mix to sign really good players.

Moukoko is one of Europe’s best youngsters and a name we will no doubt hear more from in the future.

Don’t count Newcastle out of making this signing eventually. They are getting their name known among top players, and eventually, they’ll land a few.
