Newcastle now want to sign another Serie A star alongside Ederson
Newcastle United have been linked with Atalanta’s Ederson in recent days.
Now, a report from Italy suggests the Magpies could have their eyes on another Serie A star as well.
According to , Newcastle have set their sights on Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli.
The report claims that the 29-year-old is currently in demand and has ‘never ruled out’ moving abroad.
Newcastle and Brighton have reportedly joined Fulham in the race for Romagnoli, a Serie A winner with AC Milan in 2022.

The report also notes that the Magpies are looking at the 13-cap Italy international as they have ‘no real back-up for Sven Botman’.
Calciomercato goes on to say that, even though Romagnoli is focused on his season with Lazio, an ‘indispensable offer’ could potentially turn his head.
In addition, the suitors may not find it easy striking a deal with Lazio, as the report suggests that club president Claudio Lotito is pretty tough when it comes to negotiations.
Alessio Romagnoli is a great player but Newcastle will struggle to sign him in January – TBR View
Although Newcastle could certainly do with bolstering their ranks, Romagnoli would be a very difficult signing to pull off, particularly in mid-season.
Lazio are currently pushing for a top-four finish and they won’t want to self-sabotage by selling one of their key players at this moment in time.
In addition, the signing doesn’t make much sense from Newcastle’s point of view, as Romagnoli is 29 years of age – so not much in terms of resale value – and hasn’t played in the Premier League.
That said, Romagnoli is a superb player, who helped Milan win the Scudetto two years ago and has been to none other than Alessandro Nesta, one of the best defenders in history.
Nevertheless, let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Who knows whether Newcastle may probe further and make an approach.
