Newcastle no longer talking to Nottingham Forest after swap deal proposed for Anthony Elanga
Newcastle United have been fairly active on transfer deadline day as they look to bring in a new winger.
The Magpies want to bolster their attacking ranks and, with just a few hours left until the window shuts, they haven’t got long.
Over the course of the day, speculation has been doing the rounds involving Newcastle and Nottingham Forest over Anthony Elanga.
However, it doesn’t look as though the Magpies will be able to get a deal over the line for the Reds ace.

Newcastle no longer talking to Nottingham Forest over Anthony Elanga
The likes of David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have reported that things aren’t proceeding on the Elanga to Newcastle front.
For instance, Ornstein said on the Elanga to Newcastle links today: “My initial checks suggest that it’s not going to happen.
“I don’t know if there’s interest or non-interest or an offer or a non-offer, but the word from Forest is that it’s not going to proceed.”
More recently, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Forest are “rejecting all approaches for Newcastle for Anthony Elanga.”
Meanwhile, Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has stressed that there is now “no deal”, with “Newcastle no longer talking to Forest.”
Edwards said the Reds “demanded cash plus a player to proceed” and, while there was an enquiry, “no bid was made” and the deal was “over before it started”.
Alarm bells ringing among Newcastle fanbase
Newcastle haven’t had a good transfer window by any means.
They have barely spent anything this summer, and they haven’t properly addressed their two problem positions – on the wing and at centre-back.
Newcastle have now tried their luck over Elanga, but they’ve not been successful. Now, with just a few hours left, they’ll be scrambling around for reinforcements.
