Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could be the key to unlocking Miguel Almiron’s potential

Manager Rafael Benitez needs to try find a way of getting the best out of Newcastle United’s club record £20million () signing Miguel Almiron.

The 25-year-old attacker arrived at St James’ Park in January and is yet to score or assist in his opening four games.

He’s a winger that has shown great promise so far with some eye-catching dribbles and a real turn of pace, but ultimately his transfer fee needs to result in goals.

The answer to Benitez’s £20million conundrum could be in the shape of Jonjo Shelvey.

Shelvey has become a forgotten figure around Newcastle after featuring just once in 2019 and is now waiting to break back into the team following this return from injury.

The 27-year-old surely now has a great chance following a season-ending injury to Sean Longstaff and he could be a great replacement in the midfield.

Shelvey is the best passer of the football at the North East club and his vision combined with some intelligent runs in behind from Almiron could be the perfect match.

It could of course take time for the duo to strike up a bond, but there is certainly a lot of potential for them to be a great attacking combination.

Almiron has the speed to get away from most defenders and Shelvey is the type of playmakers attackers love to feed off.
