Newcastle linked with player that Boumsong once claimed is the best of the rest
Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa on a free transfer this summer – and Jean-Alain Boumsong claimed in 2016 that he was France’s best left-back.
Kurzawa, 27, is set to see his contract expire at the end of the season with Thomas Tuchel and PSG seemingly against extending his deal. Indeed, Juan Bernat remains first choice – limiting Kurzawa to just 16 starts throughout the entire campaign.
that Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs that have been offered the 13-time France cap, along with Arsenal and Manchester United. Juventus and Inter Milan also have a chance of signing Kurzawa.
The report states that interested parties will have to offer up a hefty chunk of their wage bill in order to land the former Monaco star’s signature. Indeed, Kurzawa wants as much as £100,000-a-week for five years, but Boumsong is a huge fan of Kurzawa.
Boumsong, who played for Newcastle between 2004 and 2006, : “Who is better in France today in his position? Nobody. He represents not only the future, but now the present. He reads the game well.”

TBR’s view – Boumsong comments makes Kurzawa move a no-brainer
For Boumsong to claim that Kurzawa is a better player than the likes of Everton’s Lucas Digne, Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy or even the Hernandez brothers – who play for Bayern Munich and AC Milan, shows just how good Kurzawa is.
On a free, Kurzawa is a no-brainer – even if the defender wants an expensive, long-term contract. Bringing him to Tyneside would see the new owners land a high-profile player, and rid themselves of an issue on the left side of defence.
