Newcastle join the race to sign ‘elite’ £25m striker who outscored Alexander Isak last season

Newcastle United can now turn their attention to strengthening their squad this summer having made it out the other side following their PSR scares.

Eddie Howe‘s side were one of the Premier League clubs who found themselves at risk of a penalty if they were unable to offload some players from their books last month.

However, the Toon have made it out unscathed and find themselves in a position where they can concentrate on making some additions to their squad.

The likes of Callum Wilson could still depart Newcastle over the coming weeks which would leave the door open for a new striker to land at St James’ Park.

And it would appear the Magpies have now identified a potential candidate to possibly replace Wilson this summer on Tyneside.

Newcastle eyeing striker who is in demand across the Premier League

Injury issues hindered Newcastle massively last season with the Toon narrowly missing out on a spot in Europe.

Now the financial concerns can be put to one side, Howe’s side can look towards adding to their squad to make a push for European football.

One thing which the Saudi-based ownership may have learnt last season is the need to have a squad filled with quality beyond the starting XI.

And it now seems as if the Toon are looking to bring in a striker who has been hailed as ‘elite‘.

According to , Newcastle have entered the race to sign the Lille striker Jonathan David this summer.

It is claimed the Canada international could be bought for a figure in the region of £25m but the Toon aren’t the only side interested.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be showing an interest in the striker as they also look to bolster their options up top.

Jonathan David could be a big upgrade on Callum Wilson

Over the years, Newcastle fans have had to endure Wilson’s dismal injury record which has severely hindered his goals return.

Not only would David provide Newcastle with a more reliable option fitness-wise, he could also offer the Toon with something different on the pitch.

The Canadian (26) was even able to outscore Alexander Isak (25) across all competitions last term.

Isak has also shown his injury issues since landing on Tyneside, so to have an alternative striker who could potentially provide Newcastle with a reliable option up top could be a real boost for Howe.
