Newcastle join race to sign £25m winger shortlisted for Golden Boy award in 2022

According to a recent report, Newcastle United are plotting a move for a highly-rated young winger this summer transfer window.

The Tynesiders narrowly missed out on European football last season with a seventh-placed finish not being enough to qualify for the Europa Conference League due to Manchester United’s FA Cup win.

So, the onus will be on Eddie Howe to challenge for the top six this season and to do that, he’ll need heavy investment.

With that said, Newcastle have joined the race to sign a £25m-rated winger.

Newcastle join race to sign Wilfried Gnonto

According to , Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto.

The Magpies are said to be plotting a move for the 2003-born attacker, who was shortlisted for the Golden Boy award in 2022.

Though, they aren’t alone in their interest, as Everton and clubs in his native Italy are also keeping tabs on his situation.

It’s understood that Gnonto is eager to leave Leeds for the Premier League this summer and if his £25m asking price is met, the Championship club may sanction his sale.

Newcastle want to bolster their attacking ranks and evidently view Gnonto as the ideal player to do that with the scope to become a regular starter.

Wilfried Gnonto profile

Gnonto is an extremely versatile forward having operated off both flanks, as a number 10 and even as a centre-forward.

The 20-year-old has already been capped 13 times by Italy and is regarded as one of their brightest talents.

Gnonto netted nine times whilst laying on three assists across 44 appearances last term, which is a commendable return considering he didn’t play in his favoured position.

He’s most effective off the left but Crysencio Summerville’s exceptional form forced him to ply his trade on the right.

In other news, Newcastle United could now launch £40m bid to sign ‘world class’ Bayern Munich attacker.
