Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has not been one to remember with no big signings having come through the door.
Eddie Howe‘s concerns have now led into the final days of the market with Newcastle having only signed Lloyd Kelly on a free to bolster their outfield.
The Toon have seen some considerable changes made away from the pitch over recent months with Amanda Staveley having departed the club at ownership level.
And then there has been the appointment of Paul Mitchell who has taken over the recruitment side of the club.
However, the sporting director is yet to really work his magic as Newcastle have found themselves stuck in talks to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
With the deadline approaching on Friday, TBR Football understands that Newcastle have opened talks with Burnley over a deal for James Trafford.

TBR exclusively revealed last week that Burnley were expecting to lose Trafford this week and now long-term suitors Newcastle are back in the mix.
Newcastle failed with a deal earlier in the window, but the Toon manager, Howe, has wanted bolster their goalkeeping department this summer.

Newcastle are hoping to agree a loan deal with an obligation but there are other Premier League clubs interested.
TBR understands that Newcastle scouts made the short trip to Wearside to watch the ‘outstanding‘ Trafford in action at Sunderland at the weekend.
Trafford has previously been valued in the region of £30m following his first season in the Premier League with Burnley last year.
Newcastle also considering late move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
With a real lack of transfer activity this summer, Newcastle will now be looking for a big push over the final days of the window.

Newcastle’s squad has arguably been weakened this summer with the departures of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh due to their PSR woes in June.
