Report: Newcastle have left fellow PL club ‘shocked’ with latest wield of power
Newcastle United have moved to appoint Dan Ashworth from Brighton this week and according to a report from , the move has shocked the Seagulls to their core.
Ashworth’s appointment is seen a key move by PIF and Newcastle. The Magpies have been looking for someone to run the footballing side of things and grow the club ever since PIF bought Mike Ashley out. And in Ashworth, it’s widely accepted that Newcastle have got the right man for the job.

However, writing in his weekly newsletter for , Miguel Delaney has claimed that Brighton have been left shell-shocked by Newcastle’s approach, and subsequent capture of Ashworth.
“There was genuine shock at Brighton and Hove Albion that Dan Ashworth left the club for Newcastle United. There was a belief that he was committed to the project, and that they could greatly increase his wages if anything came of it,” Delaney .
“It points to Newcastle’s power, as well as their influence to come. Ashworth is a coup. He is precisely the kind of football intelligence the club need. The optimism at Brighton is that Ashworth has put in place the structure required, making him that bit easier to replace.”
Ashworth is currently on a period of gardening leave from Brighton. Once that finishes, he will take up his post in the northeast and get to work on helping PIF build their new footballing empire.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Ready To Make Waves In The PL
Rest assured, this, along with the success in January’s window, is a bold statement from the Toon and their new owners.
They mean business, make no mistake. They have signed good players, and now, in Ashworth, have got someone right at the top of their profession involved in a key area.
If Newcastle can stay up, which is looking more and more likely, then this summer could be one of the most exciting in recent memory for supporters of any football club.
