Newcastle have a ‘Harry Kane situation’ with Alexander Isak amid links to Liverpool
Newcastle United have a difficult situation on their hands this summer.
Indeed, Newcastle had a strange summer last year as they had to sell both Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to alleviate their spending limitations.
Newcastle did try to sign Marc Guehi last year, but that deal didn’t go ahead.
Now, heading into this summer, the Magpies face something of a battle to keep hold of one of their star players.
Indeed, Alexander Isak is wanted by Liverpool, while Arsenal are keen on Isak as well.
Speaking on KS1 TV, Steve Kay has been discussing Isak’s situation at Newcastle, and he shared an intriguing update.

Alexander Isak is in a Harry Kane situation
Kay shared what he knows about Alexander Isak amid his links to Premier League rivals.
According to the journalist, Isak is in a Harry Kane situation at Newcastle right now, claiming that even if the striker was pushing to leave St James’ Park, the club wouldn’t let him leave.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if those contracts have now been done (at Liverpool), if they had to bring in Isak and pay Newcastle, I’d question if those contracts would’ve been done.
“They’re going to be in the Champions League Newcastle. I’ve heard, I said this, I’m hearing it’s like a Harry Kane situation where they won’t let him go even if he wants to go.
“If they drop out of the Champions League, but even then, I’ve heard that Newcastle are just going to put the block on it.”
Alexander Isak’s situation compared to Harry Kane’s
Isak is in a Harry Kane situation at Spurs where Newcastle won’t let him go no matter what.
However, these situations are very different at the moment.
Indeed, Kane wanted to leave Tottenham because he wasn’t winning trophies and the club weren’t showing ambition.
Luckily, that’s not something Isak needs to worry about.
Isak has already won a trophy at Newcastle, and he’s young enough to give Newcastle more time to push for major honours.
Meanwhile, when Kane was pushing to leave Tottenham back in 2021, he was at a crossroads in his career and he’d never won a trophy.

Isak doesn’t have an escape route at Newcastle, but that’s not necessarily something he’s looking for, unlike Kane who, in his infamous interview with Gary Neville, was very clear about looking to move on from Spurs.
Isak may be the best striker in the world, but he doesn’t necessarily need to leave Newcastle to fulfill his ambitions.
