Newcastle fans reckon hiring Roberto Martinez means a takeover is off

Newcastle United are reportedly looking to bring in Belgium manager Roberto Martinez this summer as a replacement for Rafa Benitez – but Toon fans think hiring the Spaniard means a takeover is off.

Newcastle are going ‘all-out’ for 45-year-old Martinez, who took Everton to fifth place in 2013-14 and Belgium to third in the 2018 World Cup. He has also suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Owner Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez failed to come to an agreement over the Spaniard’s future at St. James’ Park, with the difference of opinion being down to the fact that Benitez wanted a long-term contract.

Ashley only offered the ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool boss an extension, and that has seen Benitez since take over at Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang. Martinez has been identified as his replacement.

A takeover of the club is said to be in the offing, but talks have reportedly dragged on and Newcastle fans are beginning to become worried that owner Ashley will remain in control of the north east club next season.

Newcastle fans are now worried that a takeover is not going to be completed, after hearing that their club reportedly want Martinez – with many of the belief that Martinez would be an appointment made by Ashley.
