Newcastle fans react to Federico Fernandez’s match-winning display vs Southampton

Newcastle came from behind to win a relegation six-pointer against fellow strugglers Southampton at St James’ Park yesterday.

Danny Ings opened the scoring for the visitors, before Jonjo Shelvey continued his hot scoring streak – netting his third goal in three games – and Federico Fernandez clinched the win with minutes remaining.

Newcastle do not have a striker who can churn out goals like Ings but their defenders have been stepping up to the plate this season with crucial contributions.

And this time it was the turn of the £43,000-a-week () former Swansea man to get the job done to leave Newcastle in tenth on 22 points.

Southampton remain in the bottom three on 18 points, but a victory would have put them within one point of Newcastle – which shows how important the win was.
