Newcastle fans react on Twitter as Federico Fernandez extends contract

A number of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to comment on concerning Federico Fernandez.

Fernandez’s future with the club appeared to have a question mark hanging over it. His deal at St James’ Park expired at the end of the season.

However, that the option in the centre-back’s contract has been taken up, meaning that he is now tied down until the end of next term.

The news has gone down very well amongst some of the Newcastle supporters on social media – with many insisting that the 31-year-old deserves the new deal.

Fernandez has made 23 Premier League appearances this season, including 20 starts. He has also scored twice this term, including the winner against Southampton in December.

But the Newcastle fans have insisted that the club need to make sure that he is not the last key player to pen fresh terms in the near future.

Plenty of fans have suggested that Matty Longstaff needs to be next, while his brother Sean is also on the supporters’ wish lists.

But the news itself has been received incredibly positively.
