Newcastle fans react as striker Andy Carroll is reportedly wanted by West Brom

Newcastle United’s Andy Carroll is being linked with Premier League rivals West Brom – and some Toon supporters on social media have responded by claiming selling him in January would be the right move.

The l reports that West Brom are lining up a list of centre-forward targets this month during the January window, as their manager Sam Allardyce tries to dig his team out of the relegation places.

It is understood that West Brom are considering a potential move for Carroll, who is out of contract with Newcastle at the end of this season.

The report has named Carroll and Bournemouth’s Joshua King are two targets.

Carroll, 32, is an experienced attacker at top-flight level and that’s exactly the type of profile that West Brom appear to be searching for.

The 6ft 4in English striker is a dominant figure in the air and has been a target man throughout his career, albeit he’s had to overcome numerous different injury setbacks.

He’s predominantly been used as a substitute by Magpies manager Steve Bruce so far this season, scoring one goal in 13 appearances across all competitions.

His cameo display in the recent 2-1 defeat to Leicester City showed he can be a threat, as he fired in a left-footed finish, but it’s been years since he started an extended run of games for one club

A selection of Newcastle fans on social media have reacted to the Carroll speculation by suggesting his exit should be granted.

They have impressive centre-forward Callum Wilson leading the line this season, but there isn’t too much in reserve as a back-up option to him, with Dwight Gayle not getting much of a look-in.
