Newcastle fans react as Ryan Fraser scores on debut against Blackburn

Ryan Fraser scored the only goal of the game to send Newcastle United into the third round of the Carabao Cup at the expense of Championship side Blackburn Rovers – and Toon fans have raved over their new signing.

Fraser, 26, was one of three signings made by Steve Bruce last week to the delight of Toon supporters. He joined Callum Wilson in swapping Bournemouth for Newcastle, while Jamal Lewis joined the club from Norwich City.

While Wilson and Lewis – as well as Jeff Hendrick – played against West Ham during Saturday’s 2-0 win, Fraser was forced to watch the Premier League opener from the bench. He remained an unused substitute.

But on Tuesday night, Fraser was thrown into the starting line-up by Steve Bruce and it paid dividends. The Scotland international looked a threat throughout in his first outing for the Toon, and netted the only goal of the game.

Excellent work by Miguel Almiron saw the South American playmaker split the Blackburn defence to allow Fraser to race through on goal. Setting himself, the pacy winger squeezed a shot past goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

Newcastle supporters reacted to Fraser’s debut for their club, which saw him leave the field of play after 58 minutes and replaced by Jacob Murphy. Many were impressed with what they saw from the pocket-sized attacker.
