Newcastle fans react as Rolando Aarons scores for Sheffield Wednesday

Rolando Aarons has posted on Twitter after the Newcastle United loanee scored his first league goal since 2016 for Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night – and Toon fans now see a future for him at St. James’ Park.

Aarons, 23, last scored a league goal for Newcastle way back in May 2016 during a 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur before The Toon were relegated. He has since scored only once, in the Carabao Cup for the Magpies.

But his long wait for a league goal is over, after dry spells at Hellas Verona and Slovan Liberec. Aarons collected the ball from in-form Adam Reach before lashing an effort home from the edge of the penalty area.

The Newcastle winger posted on Twitter after finally breaking his league duck. His goal continued Steve Bruce’s unbeaten start as Owls boss, which stretches to nine games – taking Wednesday to just three points off the top six.

Aarons, who has surprisingly played just 27 times for the Tyneside outfit, still has plenty of time left on his contract. Indeed, his deal in the north east runs until the summer of 2021 –

Wednesday fans will want Aarons to remain at Hillsborough beyond the summer, but Newcastle fans reacted to his Tweet. Many Toon supporters want to see him return to St. James’ Park at the end of his loan, rather than leaving.
