Newcastle fans react as club reportedly shortlist Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre

Newcastle United have reportedly shortlisted Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre as one of four managers they they could pursue as a replacement for Steve Bruce – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.

Steve Bruce’s reign as manager of Newcastle has been placed into doubt over the last few weeks, after Mike Ashley has accepted an offer of £300million to sell the club – 13 years after he took over on Tyneside.

Amanda Staveley is forefronting a move to finally oust Ashley, with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund bankrolling such a move. They will own 80% while Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners will own 10%, as will the Reuben Brothers.

that alongside making contact with the agents of Willian, Edinson Cavani and Dries Mertens, Newcastle have also put together a four-man shortlist of Mauricio Pochettino, Max Allegri, Rafa Benitez and Favre.

Starting off in Switzerland, Favre joined Hertha Berlin in 2009 before shining as Gladbach boss between 2011 and 2015 – winning 87 of his 188 games in charge. A decent spell at Nice has been followed by a wonderful effort as Dortmund gaffer.

Having worked with Favre at Gladbach and then Dortmund, Marco Reus claimed in 2018: “I’ve had quite a few club coaches and among them, [Favre] is probably the best I’ve ever had,” – despite working under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund.

Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news that they could go after a manager that currently boasts Jadon Sancho, Reus, Emre Can, Mats Hummels and more at his disposal.
