Newcastle fans react as club reportedly in talks with 34-year-old freebie
Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with Rangers-linked defender Martin Skrtel in a sensational move that would see Rafa Benitez form a reunion with the Slovakian defender – but Newcastle fans are not so sure.
earlier this week that Rangers had made an offer for the 34-year-old, which would see a different reunion – Skrtel teaming up with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.
However, Olympiacos are said to have joined Rangers in making an offer for Skrtel, as well as current club Fenerbahce. He is said to want £34,000 a week from Fener, and a two-year deal.

But the previous report claims he has only been offered £25,000 on a one-year deal. Now, Newcastle have looked to steal a march on their rivals by making an offer themselves –
Benitez signed Skrtel for Liverpool in 2008 from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, and he has since clocked up 320 appearances for the Reds – before leaving for Fener in the summer of 2016.
Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that their club are reportedly in talks with signing Skrtel on a free transfer, as his contract at Fener continues to get closer to its expiry date. Supporters, though, are not amused.
Really hope this is true.
Not for Skrtel. But it would be a Rafa signing and signal a change in the policy, 30+ year old transfers.

Do we need another DC though? (Especially one on probably quite high wages). Lascelles, Lejeune and Schar have all looked excellent this year for the most part, Fernandez is a more than able back up who has also had great times this year and Dummet has finally found his position
