Newcastle duo Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett’s return is timely

Newcastle United duo Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett could both return to face Manchester United at the weekend, .

The pair are back in training after both sitting out the defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

Their absence prompted a reshuffle that saw Kenedy move to left-back, while Ciaran Clark shifted centrally.

Needless to say, it wasn’t Rafa Benitez’s most successful tactical change, with the Toon Army losing the game 3-1.

Newcastle fans will be pleased that Fernandez and Dummett are back in contention. Particularly the former, who has impressed since his summer move from Swansea City.

A timely return

Assuming both players are passed fit to start the game, then it’ll be a big boost for Newcastle.

They certainly looked shaky without them against the Foxes.

United’s recent struggles have been well documented, and Newcastle will be hoping to record their first win of the season at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side cannot seem to penetrate teams at the moment, and lack creativity in the final third.

The likely returns of Fernandez and Dummett will only make the home side’s job more difficult.

Fernandez will be tasked with keeping Romelu Lukaku quiet.

The big Belgian is currently attracting criticism from fans, and the Spaniard can heap more misery on him with a strong showing.

It’s anyone’s guess who Dummett might be up against. Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial could all feature down the United right.

The Welshman is far better suited to deal with any of those players than Kenedy, who was a failed experiment last weekend.
