Newcastle could target 44-year-old from PL rival if Dan Ashworth does join Manchester United

Newcastle United may consider one Premier League rival’s technical director if Dan Ashworth does now make the move to Manchester United as speculation continues.

It appears increasingly likely that Dan Ashworth will end up joining Manchester United. According to a report from the , an agreement with the Magpies is expected next week.

Ashworth is reportedly keen to make the move to Old Trafford. He is friends with Sir Dave Brailsford. And the Daily Mail claims that his role at St James’ Park has been more limited than he initially expected.

Newcastle could target Richard Hughes if Dan Ashworth leaves

It is obviously a big blow for Newcastle if Ashworth does indeed leave the club. The Magpies appeared to have huge potential under the new owners. Eddie Howe took his side into the Champions League ahead of this season. And Ashworth has done some amazing work throughout his career.

The Daily Mail reports that Michael Edwards could become a target if Ashworth does leave. Meanwhile, Richard Hughes at Bournemouth could also be on their radar.

Bournemouth director may welcome chance to reunite with Eddie Howe

Hughes played under Eddie Howe in the latter stages of his playing career. And he took on a backroom role while Howe was still at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth have been hugely impressive over the course of this campaign. It appeared that their gamble to replace Gary O’Neil with Andoni Iraola would backfire in the early stages of the season.

But the Cherries have been excellent for much of the last few months.

Nevertheless, Newcastle may fancy their chances of convincing Hughes to make the move if they do indeed make an approach. The Magpies clearly have an opportunity to put themselves amongst the elite.

And getting the chance to work with Howe again may be tempting for Hughes at this stage of his career.

So it will be interesting to see what Newcastle’s next move will be if Ashworth’s departure is confirmed.
