Newcastle could now bid for a different goalkeeper as £16m James Trafford talks stall
Newcastle could now bid for a different goalkeeper as talks to sign James Trafford from Burnley stall.
The Magpies opened talks to sign the Burnley No.1 almost two weeks ago now – according to the – although there has since been no concrete update on the deal.
Now, reports in Italy suggest Newcastle might be starting to look for James Trafford alternatives…
Newcastle could bid for Juan Musso
A story from now claims that Newcastle could soon submit a bid for Atalanta No.1 Juan Musso.
The Argentina international started 12 out of 13 UEFA Europa League games last season as Atalanta lifted the trophy, impressively keeping eight clean sheets along the way.

Now, both Newcastle and Villarreal are monitoring Musso – with Genoa also keen to secure his signature.
Tutto Atalanta state that Newcastle see the South American glovesman as an ideal option to aid their hopes of returning to the UEFA Champions League next season, and could soon make an offer.
Ideal option for Eddie Howe
With Nick Pope still on Tyneside, Newcastle are not looking to sign a standout No.1 to displace the England international immediately, but someone who can provide strong competition.
In Musso, Newcastle could sign the perfect man for that role.
The Argentine mainly played second fiddle to Atalanta No.29 Marco Carnesecchi last season, who made 32 appearances across all competitions.
However – as aforesaid – Musso was the UEFA Europa League glovesman, and did a superb job as the Italian outfit ended up defeating Bayer Leverkusen and winning the trophy.

Therefore, the 30-year-old is accustomed to the challenge of competing for the No.1 shirt, and is clearly adept at hopping in between the sticks to great effect without needing many games to find his rhythm.
