Newcastle could bid for James Maddison in January if they can’t sign him this summer – journalist

Football journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Newcastle United could make a move to sign James Maddison in January next year if they can’t get a deal over the line this summer.
The Magpies have been relatively quiet in this window. Sven Botman has been their marquee signing so far, while Nick Pope and Matt Targett on a permanent deal are very good moves as well.
However, everyone expected PIF to make some big moves this summer. That hasn’t happened yet, but with just under a month left in the window, we could potentially see a few exciting signings.
James Maddison could well be one of them, but Leicester City have already rejected two bids from Newcastle for the ‘sensational‘ Englishman ().

Even after two rejected bids, the Magpies are expected to keep pushing for £60 million-rated Maddison. But, if Leicester decide to keep hold of him no matter what, it has been claimed that Newcastle could go back in for him in January.
O’Rourke told : “Yeah, that’s a possibility depending on how the season is going for the two clubs.
“If Leicester aren’t having a great season and Newcastle are doing well, I’m sure it’s something that they would definitely look to revisit.
“They obviously had a successful January transfer window last season when they brought in a number of players, which helped improve their fortunes.”

TBR View:
Newcastle showed everyone how to make season-changing signings in the January transfer window earlier this year.
The Toon were on the brink of relegation, but five very impressive signings – Kieran Tripper, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Target (on loan) – helped them survive in the Premier League.
Maddison could well prove to be a better signing than all five of them combined. He is a fantastic player and has proven his class in the Premier League for a number of seasons now.
Newcastle should do everything they can to sign Maddison this summer, but if they can’t, they should definitely consider going back in for him in the winter window.
