Report: Newcastle could now beat Manchester United and Klopp to mega-money January signing
Newcastle United could end up beating both Liverpool and Manchester United to the signing of Enzo Fernandez, according to reports.
A report from the l, which cites Portuguese publication , claims that Benfica are worried that Newcastle’s ownership will go out and pay the £105m release clause of Fernandez in January.
So far, the Portuguese giants have been confident in that clause keeping interested parties at bay. However, reports how Benfica are – internally anyway – worried that PIF will end up throwing money at Newcastle again in January and with that, sign Fernandez.

Of course, such a move from the Toon board would be a blow to both Liverpool and Manchester United.
Reports earlier today have claimed Man United are actually stepping up their bid to sign Fernandez. United’s pursuit comes amid talk that Benfica have already rejected a bid of over .
Newcastle, meanwhile, are expected to look for signings in January but talk of huge money being spent has been downplayed in the main.
However, with a top four finish now in their sights, PIF might well look to back Eddie Howe now and with that, a move for Fernandez won’t be off the table.
TBR’s View: Fernandez would be adored in Newcastle
Just like Bruno Guimaraes, you do get the impression that Enzo Fernandez would be loved in Newcastle.
His all action performances in the World Cup gave everyone a glimpse of the sort of player he is and there is no doubt he has the talent and battling qualities to succeed in England.
Over £100m would be a massive statement from PIF. But with the top four in sight, the time to strike might be now, even if that does mean breaking the bank in January.
