Newcastle considering late bid for ‘fantastic’ Everton player who Eddie Howe is a big fan of

Newcastle United have endured one of the most underwhelming transfer windows of any Premier League side this summer.

Aside from the free signing of Lloyd Kelly, Eddie Howe‘s side have done minimal business to bolster their squad for the 2024/25 campaign.

Following the appointment of Paul Mitchell earlier this summer, there will have been a lot of optimism that Newcastle‘s business would pick up.

However, that has not proven to be the case at all with potential outgoings continue to dominate the headlines on Tyneside.

Kieran Trippier remains a player who could leave Newcastle before the deadline with Everton showing an interest.

But it is not all about outgoings at St James’ Park with the Magpies still looking to make some moves before the end of play on Friday.

TBR Football understands that Newcastle remain interested in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and they are considering making a fresh move for the Everton striker before the window closes at the end of the month.

Newcastle considering bid for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Howe is a huge fan of Calvert-Lewin, hence Newcastle almost signing him earlier in the summer as part of a swap deal for Yankuba Minteh – that deal collapsed, but Howe and Newcastle’s interest has remained.

Chelsea have also been linked with Calvert-Lewin as a possible option should their move for Victor Osimhen fail.

It has not exactly been an electric start to the season for the Everton striker with the Toffees failing to find the back of the net in their opening two games.

But with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal Everton would be open to selling the ‘fantastic’ Calvert-Lewin this summer, as TBR have previously revealed.

Kieran Trippier could sign for Everton amid Newcastle’s Calvert-Lewin interest

Sources also confirm that could see Kieran Trippier moving in the opposite direction. Trippier lost the Newcastle captaincy last week with Howe handing the armband to Bruno Guimaraes whilst confirming to Trippier that Tino Livramento would be his first choice right back.

Whilst Howe wants Trippier to stay, the player has made it clear that he wants to leave and Everton want him.

Everton only have one Premier League loan slot left and landing Trippier on a permanent deal would suit them, as it would allow them to bring in another loan but the issue is cost.

TBR understands that the cost of Trippier, whilst a separate deal, could be offset by a deal for Calvert-Lewin – who wants to leave Everton and has made it clear in recent months that he won’t be signing a new deal as it stands.
