According to the , the Magpies are now focusing their efforts on Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

The report claims that an initial round of talks between Newcastle and the Clarets was deemed to be productive.

At present, Newcastle’s negotiators are reportedly reluctant to meet Burnley’s current asking price of more than £20million.

However, there is confidence an agreement can be reached below that figure, added the report.

Trafford would compete with Nick Pope for Newcastle’s first-choice gloves, while Mark Gillespie would remain the Magpies’ third choice.

Who is Newcastle United target James Trafford?

James Trafford came through the ranks at Manchester City and took in loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers.

In 2022, Burnley signed the 21-year-old from the Citizens for a  fee, and the “” player quickly made a name for himself as one of England’s rising stars.

Trafford made 28 appearances for Burnley last season, though he was dropped for the more experienced Arijanet Muric for the last 10 games of their league campaign.

Despite losing his first-team spot last term, making so many Premier League appearances at such a young age shows what a future he has.
