Newcastle confident of double signing by next week as fresh talks held with centre-back likened to Sergio Ramos
TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Newcastle United are confident they will soon get the signings of Anthony Elanga and James Trafford over the line.
The Magpies are yet to make a senior signing this summer, with just 18-year-old winger Antonio Cordero joining Newcastle so far.
However, Newcastle are working hard to make signings who will bolster their ranks ahead of their return to the Champions League next term.
TBR Football can also reveal that Newcastle are going to target a new centre-back as one of their next priorities, and there are a number of names on their radar.

Fresh Malick Thiaw talks held as Giorgio Scalvini also on Newcastle radar
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that Newcastle believe their deals for Anthony Elanga and James Trafford will be over the line within the next week.
TBR Football revealed on Thursday that Nottingham Forest would accept upwards of £60million for Elanga, who is open to a move on Tyneside.
Then, the Magpies’ priority will be a new right-sided CB and a new striker. Attention is turning to the central defender market, but Newcastle are well versed.
A deal for Marc Guehi has cooled, with Newcastle of the belief that he is likely to wait to go on a free transfer next summer.
With that, Newcastle have been continuing work on options, and one player is Giorgio Scalvini.
The Magpies have been watching the Atalanta powerhouse regularly, along with teammate Ederson, for two years.
TBR Football understands that Newcastle are doing work on Scalvini’s recent injuries – just to clarify whether it is really an issue or not.
We can confirm that they have also had fresh talks with Malick Thiaw’s camp – the AC Milan defender has been told he can move on.
Thiaw is a player who Newcastle tried to sign last summer and Eddie Howe likes. Como are desperate for him but he is keeping them at arm’s length thus far.
Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi, Sevilla’s Loic Bade and Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande have all been spoken about within the club too.

What Malick Thiaw could bring to Newcastle and what Eddie Howe has said about Germany ace
Thiaw is just 23 years of age, so he’s yet to hit his prime as a centre-back, but he has already made 149 senior appearances for club and country.
The 6ft 4in centre-back has shown great quality and superb potential over the past few years, suggesting he could now be ready for a big move to the Premier League.
In 2023, deemed Thiaw one of the ‘greatest talents in Europe’ and, at just 23 years of age, he already has 83 Milan appearances to his name, plus three Germany caps.
Meanwhile, AC Milan’s official ran a ‘six things to know about Thiaw’ article after he joined, and they noted how has been compared to Sergio Ramos and Joel Matip.
Thiaw has been linked with Newcastle in the past, and Howe even spoke about Thiaw amid all the speculation.
“I’m always reluctant to comment on these things,” Howe said earlier this year.
“But he’s a player I know about, of course I do, from our games in the Champions League against Milan and yeah, he’s a very good player, but that’s it.”
