Newcastle attacker Kenedy has taken a major step backwards this season
Rafael Benitez has once again overachieved at Newcastle United this season, with his team on course to retain their top-flight status.
The Magpies are currently seven points above the relegation places in the Premier League and their next game is away to Arsenal on Monday night.
Newcastle are on a level playing field this campaign compared to last year and most of their players are performing at a similar level, with investment needed if they realistically want to challenge for European football.
But attacker Kenedy is the one player at St James’ Park that has perhaps taken the biggest step backwards in the 2018/19 season.
The Brazilian winger dazzled for the North East club in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan from Chelsea, as he helped them avoid relegation.
He linked up with Newcastle once again at the beginning of the season for a year loan, but his stock has massively dropped since after losing his form.
Kenedy has made just 25 senior appearances so far this campaign and has completely fallen out of favour.
The 23-year-old hasn’t started a league fixture in 2019 so far and has lost the trust of his manager Rafael Benitez.
, Newcastle will not be looking to re-sign the left-winger from Chelsea at the end of the season.
Kenedy, who earns £25,000-a-week (), has certainly got a lot of work to build his reputation back up after flopping during a second stint at St James’ Park.
