Newcastle attacker Kenedy appears to have thrown in the towel

Newcastle United suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Watford on Saturday afternoon, as their dreadful form in the FA Cup of recent years continued.

The Magpies were dumped out of the competition in the fourth round by their Premier League rivals and once again any hopes of silverware ended.

Rafael Benitez’s side weren’t at the races despite having a fairly strong starting XI, but too many players fell well short.

Kenedy once again turned in another howler for Newcastle and it really looks like he’s thrown the towel in at St James’ Park.

The 22-year-old attacker is on his second loan spell with Newcastle from Chelsea and made a brilliant impact last season to keep the club in the top flight.

But his form this campaign in the North East has been shocking and he continued that trend against Watford.

Kenedy was extremely wasteful in possession at the weekend and lacked an attacking threat, something which has seen him lose his regular starting position in Benitez’s team in recent games.

The Brazilian winger is a flair player that very much relies on confidence and he can look uninterested at times when it’s not going for him.

He blew a huge opportunity to get himself back in favour with a solid display in the cup, but it was more of the same from him and fans must wish they could have the 2017/18 version of him back.

Kenedy, who earns £25,000-a-week (), needs to perform a massive U-turn in his form if he is to have an impact in the remainder of the season before returning to Chelsea.
