Newcastle are ‘very serious’ about signing six-time league winner in last days of transfer window

Newcastle United have shown interest in a new centre-back and right-winger this summer and now they have reportedly set their sights on a midfielder too.

It has been an unusually quiet transfer window for Newcastle United so far this summer, but it seems the Tyneside club could strike several deals in the final days of the window.

Newcastle continue to push for Marc Guehi after having four bids for him rejected by Crystal Palace, but they are also looking at alternative options like Edmond Tapsoba in case that deal falls through.

A new winger is also on their shopping list and Keith Downie has been given the name of a forward that Newcastle are looking to sign.

But Newcastle may not be done there with new reports suggesting they are looking to strengthen in midfield before the window slams shut at the end of the month.

Newcastle United ‘very serious’ about midfield target

Newcastle United’s transfer window may be about to burst into life as they pursue new signings in three different positions.

According to , Newcastle are “very serious” about signing central midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The report adds that Newcastle are prepared to offer the 28-year-old a lucrative salary package as they try to lure him to St James’ Park.

Rabiot is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus earlier this summer. Manchester United have shown a long-term interest in him while Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly remain in the race for Rabiot too.

The France international would add plenty of experience to Eddie Howe‘s squad having already won six league titles throughout his club career – five with Paris Saint-Germain and one with Juventus.

A world-class midfield

With Bruno Guimaraes staying and Sandro Tonali returning from his suspension, Newcastle may be about to have one of the best midfield lineups of any Premier League side this season.

Joelinton and young talent Lewis Miley add to the impressive midfield depth at Newcastle.

With Rabiot available on a free transfer, it would be a shrewd signing and a statement of Newcastle’s intent to return to European football next season.
