Newcastle are still interested in signing ‘electric’ £15m Premier League attacker this summer

Amid all of the chaos of the past weekend, Newcastle United are now beginning to take stock and plan for the coming transfer window.

Eddie Howe and his team have solved their PSR concerns, and are now in a strong position to add to their squad this month and next.

It’s regrettable that Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson have had to be sold in the process, but having reportedly recouped more than £60m for both deals, Newcastle can spend.

Howe’s side were quiet in January because of their financial situation, but will now seek a new centre-back, a right-winger and a forward to boost their squad.

Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes will both stay at St James’ Park this summer, a huge coup.

But in order to keep their star pair beyond the new season, they’ll likely need to make a concerted effort to return to the Champions League.

Both Isak and Guimaraes are ambitious characters, and seem unlikely to stay at a club who aren’t showing signs that they can win silverware.

Newcastle still interested in signing Anthony Elanga despite failing with enquiry

That being said, having failed to sign Anthony Elanga during negotiations with Nottingham Forest during a deal for Anderson, Newcastle may return with another move.

That’s according to who confirm that Newcastle ‘retain interest’ in Elanga.

last summer from Manchester United, and the Sweden international enjoyed some ‘electric’ performances.

The same report confirms that Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen have also been discussed as solutions at right-wing.

But Newcastle’s interest in Elanga seems concrete, given the club enquired about the winger during Forest’s advances for Anderson.

Instead, Odysseas Vlachodimos arrived on Tyneside, a less than inspiring signing given Newcastle had been linked with goalkeepers who could provide a genuine challenge for Nick Pope.

Despite amassing 42 caps for Greece, Vlachodimos fell to third choice at Forest last season, who were likely thrilled to find an exit for the 30-year-old.

And in truth, given Forest were unwilling to include Elanga in negotiations for Anderson, their stance will likely be similar before the end of August too.

Tottenham Hotspur paid to sign Brennan Johnson from Forest last summer, a deal that would likely act as a marker for any Elanga exit.

The 22-year-old is immensely important to Nuno Espirito Santo’s project, just as he would be for Howe on the right-wing.
