Newcastle and Everton linked with player that impressed Sam Allardyce at 2018 World Cup

Newcastle and Everton are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard this summer as the England ace looks set to enter the final 12 months of his contract – and Sam Allardyce is a big fan.

that Newcastle and Everton have joined the race to sign 27-year-old Lingard, who is also being considered by Leicester City and West Ham United. Manchester United rate Lingard in the region of £30million.

Lingard’s best season came during the 2017-18 campaign, where he had a hand in 20 goals during his 48 league and cup appearances for United – before shining for England at the 2018 World Cup, even scoring a stunner against Panama.

But since then, Lingard has struggled. This season, he has netted just twice in 35 outings and is now set to enter the final 12 months of his contract. Allardyce, who has managed both Newcastle and Everton, heaped huge praise on Lingard in 2018.

“Experience for Jesse Lingard has proven to help him be more consistent and more dynamic, not only in the Man United side,” Allardyce told TalkSPORT, . “He handles the pressure, you play for Man United and that’s massive pressure.

“Everybody knows the demands of Manchester United, Champions League and to win the league. I think that he’s come through that with great experience over the years and his talent is getting better and better.”

So, is Lingard worth buying? Over the past couple of seasons, Lingard seems hampered in a United side that have been in and out of form. Rather than being allowed the freedom to shine, Lingard has been stifled at times.

Yes, his off-the-field antics draw criticism. But Lingard needs a team where he is constantly in the side, and given the freedom to shine. At Newcastle or Everton, he could be afforded that – and it could see him return to his 2017-18 form.
