Some Arsenal fans are still unhappy about the fact that Mikel Arteta forced Matteo Guendouzi out of the club for disciplinary reasons.

The French midfielder burst onto the scene in the Premier League in 2018 and became a huge fan favourite. He was spectacular in his debut season under Unai Emery, but his fortunes changed for the worse under Arteta.

After a few problems behind the scenes, Guendouzi was involved in an altercation with Brighton’s Neal Maupay. Arteta had enough at that point and the Frenchman hasn’t played a game for Arsenal since.

Arteta pushed him out on loan to Marseille in the summer and the French giants are obligated to buy him at the end of this season. His initial performances there have been decent, but what he’s doing behind the scenes proves that Arsenal were right to get rid of him.

Few Marseille players are fed up with Guendouzi

French journalist Romain Canuti said on the : “There isn’t just Gerson who is fed up with Guendouzi. That doesn’t matter, you don’t need to read too much into it, but there are a few players at OM who are struggling with Guendouzi.

“His way of working, when he always blames others for things, when he falls to his knees in training to implore God because a touch isn’t good enough.

“I don’t blame him for this attitude, we know this type of temperament in Marseille, but there are foreign players who aren’t that into it, who have a lot of trouble with that. When you’ve got a guy like that, who always criticises, you might not want to sympathise with him down the line.

Arteta was right to get Guendouzi out of Arsenal

If there’s one thing Arteta demands at Arsenal more than anything else, it’s discipline. He wants everyone to follow his rules at all times and whoever crosses the line, be it club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Guendouzi, will be punished.

Guendouzi definitely did something behind the scenes that irked Arteta. The Arsenal boss quickly decided that he didn’t want that attitude anywhere near his side, and it looks like he was right to do what he did. The Gunners are in a much better place now.

The Frenchman, on the other hand, is still causing trouble after everything that has happened to him. He was punished for disciplinary issues at Lorient and Arsenal, and if Canuti’s words are true, it’s only a matter of time before he’s pushed away from the side at Marseille.
