New twist emerges in Florian Wirtz to Liverpool deal as Reds could now complete unique transfer

Liverpool are making serious moves in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, the Reds aren’t wasting any time this summer, and they’ve seemingly already secured one signing ahead of the window opening.

Jeremie Frimpong is set to sign for Liverpool, and he may not be the only Bayer Leverkusen player on his way to Anfield.

Florian Wirtz has been strongly linked to Liverpool, and the Reds look set to complete this blockbuster transfer.

Wirtz could be a big-money signing for Liverpool, Wirtz has been valued at £126m, but the Merseyside club may well get a reduction on that fee by using a unique method.

Liverpool could be set to do swap deal for Florian Wirtz

According to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are now discussing the idea of sending a player to Bayer Leverkusen as a part of this transfer.

Liverpool have a number of players who could be set to leave the club this summer, and a swap deal would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone.

Interestingly, Bayer Leverkusen wanted to sign Tyler Morton in the past, so perhaps that’s an avenue that could be explored here.

Leverkusen’s squad is being gutted at the moment, Jonathan Tah is leaving, Jeremie Frimpong is on his way out, and Wirtz could also be set to go.

The German side need replacements, and a swap deal could work for all parties here.

Previous swap deals completed by Liverpool

Swap deals are often spoken about in football, but these moves very rarely actually happen.

Indeed, due to a number of complicated factors, swap deals are very rare, but Liverpool have done a handful of these transfers over the years.

Luis Garcia and Fernando Torres’ moves were officially separate deals, but, in all-but-name, this was a swap deal.

Swap deals are becoming more popular in the era of the new Profit and Sustainability rules, Tottenham signed Archie Gray in a swap deal involving Joe Rodon last year, while Elliot Anderson and Odysseas Vlachodimos swapped places at Newcastle and Nottingham Forest respectively.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as Liverpool look to conclude a deal for Wirtz.
