Neville says Harvey Elliott was Liverpool’s best player on Monday
Gary Neville had praise for one Liverpool man during their defeat on Monday night, with the pundit telling (broadcast on 22/8; 21:14) that Harvey Elliott was the Reds’ best player at Old Trafford.
The clash with Manchester United proved to be a miserable one for Jurgen Klopp’s side. They would have known that their opponents had a massive point to prove after their awful start to the campaign.

However, Liverpool were extremely poor. Goals in either half gave Erik ten Hag his first win since arriving in the Premier League.
And Liverpool could have no complaints. Several of their players barely showed up. Trent Alexander-Arnold was embarrassing for the opening goal. And Virgil van Dijk was hardly much better.

The majority of the midfield were lacklustre, with Jordan Henderson coming off around the hour-mark.
And Luis Diaz was probably the only attacker who deserved any sort of credit. Neither Mohamed Salah or Roberto Firmino made any sort of positive impact on the game until Salah headed home a goal late on.
But it was a night in which Elliott could hold his head high. The youngster put many of his teammates to shame with a much brighter performance. He caused problems and he really tried to make things happen.
Certainly, Neville felt that the 19-year-old stepped up more than most.
“He’s still been pretty sharp and lively, Elliott. The ‘best of a bad bunch’,” .
Harvey Elliott the best Liverpool player
Elliott has been bright throughout his time in the Liverpool first-team. Last year was threatening to be a real breakout season before he suffered that serious injury.
He has been the shining light at the start of this campaign. And you get the impression that he is more than happy to deal with the responsibility.
If Liverpool are going to drag themselves out of their current rut, many of the players are going to have to follow Elliott’s example in the weeks ahead.
