Neves explains why Wolves felt like a top six side after Brighton draw last weekend

The contrast between Wolves’ performances against the Premier League’s top six and the bottom six has been one of the most perplexing plots of the entire season.

It’s clear that the Old Gold have been keen all season to land eye-catching blows on the big boys but have been unable to rouse themselves against the so-called lesser lights.

That continued against Brighton last weekend, when Wolves played out a 0-0 draw at Molineux, and Ruben Neves has said that the Seagulls’ reaction to that result made them feel like a top six side.

Neves told the: “Against Brighton, the way they celebrated a point against us, we feel like a big team. You don’t have many teams celebrating a point against a team that isn’t in the top six.

“This shows we’re improving and we’re doing well. The way we play, it’s hard to play against us. Every team has difficulty. We have three games to go and a lot of things to achieve. Let’s keep going.”

The top six is where Wolves ultimately want to get to and although getting in there will be tough, they’re going the right way about it.

Having opposition teams come to Molineux and be very happy with a draw is a sign of their growing status but they do have a way to go in terms of consistency and attacking impetus to get to that top six standard.

Even underperforming and stuttering top six sides have vastly outperformed Wolves across the course of the season, but that gives Wolves something to strive for.
