‘Never replaced him’… Tim Sherwood says Tottenham are still missing player they sold for £11m

Tottenham have let some truly incredible players leave the club over the years.

Harry Kane left in the summer, Christian Eriksen left a few years ago, while Kyle Walker’s move to Manchester City back in 2017 has proven to be a terrible move for Spurs.

However, perhaps the most notable departure at Tottenham in recent times happened five years ago to this day.

Indeed, back in 2019, Mousa Dembele left Spurs, and speaking on , Tim Sherwood has now claimed that Spurs still haven’t replaced the Belgian since his move.

Dembele hasn’t been replaced

Sherwood shared his verdict on the midfielder when comparing him to Rodri.

“His passing with different parts of his feet, he’s a top drawer player. The reference I call him, I had one at Tottenham and they’ve never replaced him, Mousa Dembele, when he had the ball I could just sit back and relax because I knew he would do the right things and the right time, and that’s what Rodri does,” Sherwood said.

What about Bissouma?

We’d have agreed for a long time that Spurs struggled to replace Mousa Dembeel, but now, we’d have to disagree with this sentiment.

Yes, replacing Dembele has been a tough task at Spurs, but it does feel as though they finally have their man in the shape of Yves Bissouma.

The Mali international has that same poise on the ball that Dembele once had, he’s consistently picking out the right passes and despite his size, he moves with incredible grace across the pitch.

Dembele is one of those players who is so unique, and Spurs have struggled to replace him up until this point, but, this season, Bissouma has looked every bit the Dembele replacement that Spurs have been waiting for over the past five years.

Spurs may have finally found the perfect blend in midfield.
