Neil Warnock says he tried to sign Celtic player last week, suggests he dodged bullet
that he tried to sign Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli last week and spoke to the Scottish champions about luring the left-back to Middlesbrough on loan – but is now thankful a move failed.
Bolingoli, 25, has been widely criticised by his own manager, players, fans and pundits alike after he travelled to the high risk country of Spain for a day and failed to quarantine on his return – even playing for the Hoops.
It is believed the £3million signing () flew to Spain for a day earlier in the week and instead of quarantining, he trained and played against Kilmarnock in a 1-1 draw – before confessing to what he had done.
Speaking about Bolingoli’s actions, Middlesbrough boss Warnock has claimed he rang Celtic to try and take him on loan and is now glad a move did not work out. Asked if he would now sign him, Warnock said he would not.
“I rang Celtic last week asking about Bolingoli on loan. It’s a good job I didn’t get him, isn’t it?”Asked if he would go back in for him, “No, not now. It’s just one of those things.”

TBR’s view – Celtic need to get rid of Bolingoli as soon as possible
But that could be harder than first believed, following Warnock’s comments. Bolingoli has endured a difficult spell at Celtic anyway, but his recent antics are likely to put clubs off – especially on these shores.
Signing Bolingoli following his actions would only draw a negative reaction, right now. Offloading him to a club overseas should be the order of the day and French side Amiens have reportedly made a loan-to-buy offer.
